If you need help finding local energy assistance resources, call the National Energy Assistance Referral hotline toll-free at 1-866-674-6327 or email firstname.lastname@example.org (TTY 1-866-367-6228)
The NEAR hotline is maintained by the LIHEAP Clearinghouse, a program of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families. It is not affiliated with the Campaign for Home Energy Assistance.
On Tuesday, the Labor, Health & Human Services (LHHS) Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to fund the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) at a $3.39 billion level for FY 2016. This is the same level enacted in FY2015.
In February 2015, President Obama requested $3.39 billion in funding. Today’s markup matches that level, but shorter still of the $4.7 billion requested by a bipartisan group of 87 mayors from across 20 states in a letter submitted to the President in late 2014. Advocates for LIHEAP will continue to champion increased funding for the program on the Hill and in communities across the nation.
